Who are you leaning on? It’s an important question.

When we’re kids, we lean on our parents.

When we’re married, we lean on our spouse.

When we’re single, who do we lean on?

Well, author and spiritual leader Mary Baker Eddy says:

To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings.

Mary Baker Eddy - To those leaningThroughout my childhood, my grandmother taught me to lean on God. Any time I would ever go to her in tears (which was often), she would turn me to God.

My grandmother taught me God was the one we should turn to, the one we could always count on.

In today’s society, it’s way too easy to lean on food, other people, alchohol, anything but our heavenly father.

Back in 1875 Mary Baker Eddy published the first edition of Science and Health – a book all about leaning on God and the healing effects that follow.

My grandmother studied the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. Grandmother passed this legacy on to her children and grandchildren.

What Mary Baker Eddy discovered in the 1800’s was in essence the laws of God that Christ Jesus practiced over 2000 years ago.  I can’t say enough how blessed I am that Grandmother shared this healing power with me.

Today, I am sitting in my apartment, going through a difficult season of life.  Ok. I’ve had many difficult seasons of life over the past 10 years. However, today marks day 1 of me taking Andy Stanley’s challenge: One year of no dating.

I signed my divorce papers a couple weeks ago and have decided to do what I wanted to do years ago. The thought of taking one year off dating and focus on being “the person the person I’m looking for is looking for” has appealed to me for a while. I’m finally bold enough to do it.

You see, ever since my first week of high school, I haven’t gone more than a couple weeks without a date… in over 23 years!! There was always someone there wanting to date me. Yes, I was picky and no, I didn’t date just anyone. However, there have never been a lack of choices.

Today I took the pledge to spend an entire year saying no. No to dating. No to flirting. No to letting boys into my life. Yes to God. Yes to a deeper relationship with Christ Jesus. Yes to becoming a better version of me.

I decided at the same time to study in greater depth  the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. I have the journal for Reading Science and Health in a Year and the journal for Reading Miscellaneous Writings in a Year.

So, as I spend my year free from dates, I’m also spending the next year learning how to be a better healer.

I used to be in the full time practice of Christian Science healing. It was such a joy to get phone calls from people looking for healing in their lives. It’s been 9 years since I left the public practice of Christian Science healing and I’m excited to start bringing healing back to our community.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is a book that is to be studied over and over again, just like the Holy Bible. Together, these two books outline the way to heal the way Christ Jesus did.

Today begins my journey into leaning on “the sustaining infinite” instead of on everything else. I hope my journey helps others.
