Today’s dare: Choose today to start reacting to your children with love instead of irritation. Begin by making a list of areas where you need to lower stress in your life. Then list any wrong motivations that you need to release from your heart.
Questions for day 7 (from page 34):
Where do you need to release stress in your life? When have you recently overreacted? What was your real motivation behind it? What new decisions have you made today?
Today’s dare is about becoming less irritable toward and around our children.
Page 32 in The Love Dare For Parents states:
If your kids always sense your unearned irritation, you will cause them to feel less loved and more insecure. You will unintentionally push their hearts away from yours. And if this tenency continues over time, they will likely adopt it as their expression of choice later on to their own children, thereby continuing a harmful pattern for generations to come.
That’s why fighting off the root causes of irritation is like kicking harmful intruders out of your home. Don’t even let them in. Determine to no longer let minor problems produce major reactions. Resolve to exercise emotional self-control. Choose to guard your words when frustration starts to well up inside of you, and let love direct the manner of your expressions, actions, and even your countenance
