“Today is a beautiful day!” Don’t you wish you could say that every day? I do think it’s possible. In this article I want to go over how to make your day better. My hope is that my personal experiences can be used to help others on their life journey. After years of tears, I can now wake up almost every day and said “Today is a beautiful day.” I find myself during the middle of the day with an unstoppable smile on my face and deep gratitude in my heart thinking “God, thank you SO very much!” What am I thanking Him for? Everything!
There were too many days over the past years in which I let life take hold and take me where it may instead of purposefully opening my thought to being in tune with my heavenly Father. So much wrong can happen when we aren’t paying attention and just let our lives go with the flow.
Nearly a year ago I became part of a mentor training group where we dove into different spirituality books. It was such a growing time for me. I went from feeling broken to having a much deeper relationship with Jesus. Besides all the books we studied, I also dove into a dozen other books on my own. My soul was just soaking everything up. I can’t stress enough how much your life changes when you make time in your day to read helpful books.
The Bible teaches we are what we think… “As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.” (Proverbs 27:19)
Use Mediatation to make your day better.
Christian Meditation is the practice of silencing thought and focusing or “meditating” on God, scripture, or other spiritual thoughts. Meditation is different from prayer. It is a more calming and contemplative act than praying. Time spent contemplating God or His word works wonders in your life.
Paul said “Whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well spoken of, whatever virtue there is and whatever praiseworthy thing there is, continue considering these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
Psalms 1:2 “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
I have personally noticed that when I let days go by without spending quality time meditating on God’s Word, I am not at peace the way I am when I make meditation an important part of my day.
Definitely don’t make meditation just another thing to mark off your list for the day. See meditation as filling your cup back up so you can overflow onto others. Mediation is a way to heal yourself from the inside out. It helps wash away the hurt and pain from your life and brings you back to feeling centered.
Sometimes when I can’t make my thoughts stop racing, I will grab my phone and go to my Andy Stanley app or my Joel Osteen app and listen to one of their sermons. When I awake in the middle of the night I turn another sermon on. This way, my thought gets filled with spiritual thoughts instead of all the worries of the day.
Use prayer to make your day better.
Matthew 6:6 “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
Prayer is different from meditation in that it is more of a conversation with God and less pondering his Word. When you pray, believe He will answer your prayers. It’s just that God doesn’t always answer our prayers in the way or time we are wanting. But that’s a good thing.
Use a Positive Attitude to make your day better.
I have found the more I am praying and meditating, the more I have a positive attitude. Things that used to bother me just don’t seem to bother me that much any more. This past year of really diving into scripture and different books on spirituality has helped me find forgiveness, unconditional love, and inner peace.
When I demand to have a positive attitude instead of reacting to things, life is a lot easier. Your body responds to your attitudes. My body is much happier with me the more I am able to maintain a peaceful and positive attitude about things instead of reacting or responding with anger, fear or frustration.
I would love to hear how your meditation, prayers and positive attitudes have helped you have a better day!
